During your holiday in the Algarve, you cannot miss to visit the beautiful town of Tavira, only 20 minutes away by car from Olive Valley. Walk trough all the little streets of Tavira and just wonder around to get a real feel of Tavira. It has lots of beautiful historical buildings, the Roman bridge, churches and the beautiful river Gilão, that runs trough the city. The river is connected to the sea and because of that it has low and high tide. Tavira is a lively city in the tourist season with lots of cultural activities, music and lots of markets with traditional handcrafts. Tavira has also a lots of arty shops and lovely restaurants.
Ferries depart from the wharf to the Ilha de Tavira, a favorite destination for sun seekers. Alternatively, you can join a sightseeing cruise along the Ria Formosa, a beautiful and unspoiled waterway and part of a protected natural park.
